Boots reverts to five-day-a-week office attendance for HQ workers

Head office workers in London, Nottingham and Weybridge will be affected by the change. It had previously encouraged staff to attend the office three days a week, reported The Telegraph.Boots employs roughly 8,000 people at its Nottingham HQ, which accounts for around 15% of its 52,000-strong UK workforce.

While many businesses have been encouraging workers back to their desks, in both the fashion and beauty sectors a hybrid model has become the norm for multiple major firms.UK managing director Seb James is understood to have sent letters to employees informing them of the move as he vowed to make the business “more effective”.He said he’d been “very heartened by the way people have embraced the three-days-a-week model and I think you will agree that the office is a much more fun and inspiring place on those days.“There is no doubt in my mind that the informal conversations, brief catch-ups and ability to meet in groups in person have been far more effective – and better for the Boots culture than the enforced formality of remote meetings. I know that has been true for me.”It’s perhaps an understandable move given rumours that the business is being prepared for a stock market float, which would mean a return to the London Stock Exchange after 17 years of private ownership, with a potential £7 billion valuation.Owner Walgreens Boots Alliance has sought to sell Boots in a £5 billion sale but abandoned the process in 2022 after not achieving the desired price tag.But the Boots operation has been a shining light for the parent company in recent periods and has bounced back strongly post–pandemic so it’s chances of achieving a higher evaluation in a stock exchange listing are strong.
